The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN on the plateau gathered today Sunday May 24th to thank God for the successful elections and also to pray for the outgoing Governor Da David Jonah Jnag and the incoming governor Hon. Simon Lalong.
In his welcome speech the chairman of CAN Plateau State chapter, Rev. Dr Soja Bewareng said the church on the plateau gathered sometime in February to pray for the will of God and to seek peace for the general elections. He said it was only fair and good for the people of God to gather again in thanksgiving since the elections were conducted and completed successfully. He said the victory was for the church and he charged the church to continue to unite in prayers and to ensure that they support the incoming government as well.
In his message the Catholic Archbishop of Jos Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama who spoke on the topic the sovereign God said today according to the tradition of the church calendar is Pentecost day and it signifies the sovereignty of God. He said the church which was born on the Pentecost day was a united church. He challenge denominational leaders to encourage their members to stop criticising one another, instead they should be united as one body of Christ.
The Archbishop said, the elections had come and went and what remain is the people to unite and support the incoming government at all levels. He said it was not fair for the people of the plateau to criticise Jang's administration without looking at some the good efforts he has made. He said, "Let it not be the case of throwing the baby and the bath water. Jang has sacrifice for the state though as human there maybe lapses, let us thank him." He said if the church cannot appreciate the outgoing governor so also will they not appreciate the incoming governor whenever he may be leaving.
He charged the new governor to be humble enough to learn from the wealth of experience of the outgoing governor.
