The increasing shortage in supply
of the petroleum products in Nigeria has forced some banks in the country to
cut down cost by reducing hours of attending to customers. The Church Day in Jos gathered that the Guarantee Trust Bank one of the
leading retail bankers in Nigeria pasted at its entrance at the Ahmadu Bello
Way Branch of the bank. The Bank categorically stated that the reduction in the
hours of work was necessitated by the lack of fuel and in order to reduce cost
of running the branches of the bank it has to close banking by 1pm instead of
the usual 4pm.
Though this is not totally new to
the residents of Jos. The city in the past had experienced lesser hours of
banking which was as a result of the security issues in the state and other northern
parts of Nigeria. Since the activities of Boko Haram began to affect bank branches
in the north some of the banks had to close down their branches in remote areas
and the ones in the inner cities reduced their banking hours.
